Camila Montañez, Podcast Host
Camila Montañez is a Colombian-born journalist. Her passion for politics, culture and the Latino community in the U.S motivated her to pursue a career in journalism and advocacy. After getting her TV-Broadcast BA from Florida Memorial University, she worked at The Westside Gazette, the newspaper serving South Florida’s African-American community. She then moved to New York City to join Hillary Clinton’s campaign on the Latino vote-outreach team, and in 2017 completed an MA in Journalism at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
This up-close experience of American politics has given Camila a deeper understanding of how the different communities in the U.S are making this country so unique and diverse. Camila believes journalism has the power to educate, mobilize and organize communities to speak up for their rights and to question the institutions that have undermined them. She is also currently working with The International Planned Parenthood Federation for the Latin American and the Caribbean Region.
